Primary Election: Tuesday, August 11, 2026

Connecticut’s primary election will be held on Tuesday, August 11, 2026. Polls will be open from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Only registered members of the Democratic party may vote in the Democratic primary.

You have options to vote in Connecticut:

  • Vote early in person
  • Vote by absentee ballot
  • Vote on Election Day
  • Register and vote in person if eligible

Voter Registration Deadline

  • Online or by mail: July 24, 2026
  • In-person registration: available through Election Day

Party Affiliation Deadline

To switch political parties before the primary, the deadline was May 11, 2026. Unaffiliated voters may enroll in a party by noon on August 10 to participate in that party’s primary.

Early Voting in Connecticut

Connecticut voters can now cast their ballot before Election Day through early in-person voting.

Early voting for the August primary runs from August 3 through August 9 at designated early voting locations in every municipality across the state.

Voting early is secure, convenient, and helps ensure your voice is heard on your schedule.

Absentee Voting

Absentee ballot voting will open in July.

All voters are now eligible to vote via absentee ballot and may request an absentee ballot through their local town clerk. Applications are available online or through your municipal clerk’s office.

Completed absentee ballots must be returned to your local town clerk by Election Day. They can be mailed, not postmarked, to arrive by Primary Day or you can drop it off at your town’s secure ballot drop box.

Same Day Voter Registration

Eligible Connecticut residents may register and vote in person on Election Day. Same Day Registration is available at designated locations in each town and city.
