Governor Lamont Endorsed by Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association
Hartford, Conn. – Governor Ned Lamont today announced he has earned the endorsement of the Connecticut Uniformed Professional Fire Fighters Association (UPFFA), the state’s firefighter union, which represents more than 70 local unions of the IAFF and more than 4,000 union firefighters across Connecticut. This support highlights the Governor’s commitment to workers’ rights and the strong grassroots support backing his reelection campaign.
“Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day, and they deserve more than just our gratitude, they deserve a partner in government who fights for them as hard as they fight for us,” said Governor Ned Lamont. “My admiration for these brave men and women is rooted in the sacrifices they make for our communities. That’s why we made it a priority to ensure they are safe, healthy, and supported throughout their entire careers. We’ve taken historic action to expand cancer relief and life-saving screenings, and we’ve made sure that mental health and PTSD are finally treated with the same urgency and dignity as physical injuries.”
Under Governor Lamont’s leadership, Connecticut has become a national leader in protecting the health and financial security of first responders. The Governor has consistently championed legislation that recognizes the unique risks of the profession, most notably through the expansion of the Connecticut Firefighters Cancer Relief Program. This expansion ensures that more firefighters have access to wage replacement and medical benefits, while new initiatives for free, full-body cancer screenings prioritize early detection to save lives.
“Governor Lamont hasn’t just talked about supporting firefighters; he has delivered the results that keep our members healthy and secure,” said Peter Brown, President of the UPFFA. “From expanding cancer coverage to recognizing the reality of PTSD in our profession, he has proven he has our backs. We are proud to endorse his reelection and look forward to building on the progress we’ve made together.”
Beyond physical health, the Governor’s administration has taken historic steps to address the mental health of first responders by signing groundbreaking laws that provide workers’ compensation coverage for PTSD. This ensures that firefighters diagnosed with job-related trauma receive treatment and support with the same urgency as physical injuries. Furthermore, the Governor has remained committed to stabilizing the state’s fiscal health to protect the pensions and retirement security that firefighters and their families count on after a career of service.
