Lamont Joins State Public Service Workers' Call for Increased Transparency and Accountability in State Contracts

New Haven, CT -- Today the Connecticut State Contracting Standards Board (SCSB), an organization created to ensure transparency and accountability in state contracting and procurement processes, met  for the first time since its creation in 2007.

Earlier in the day members of the Connecticut State Employees Association (CSEA)/Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 2001 and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 4 called on the SCSB and Governor Rell to "establish long overdue safeguards for taxpayer dollars and greater protection of public safety and health."

Businessman and candidate for governor Ned Lamont released the following statement today joining CSEA/SEIU Local 2001 and AFSCME Council 4 in their call for a renewed focus on transparency and accountability in government contracts and procurement:

"I agree with Connecticut's public service workers on the need to improve state government's stewardship of taxpayer money.  As a business owner, I understand that using financial resources efficiently and accountably is critical to success, and I'm running for governor to put that experience to work transforming how Connecticut does business.  That's why I fully support the State Contracting Services Board in its mission to make Connecticut government contracts more transparent and accountable. We cannot afford to waste taxpayer money on expensive, non-competitive contracts that do not deliver maximum value for the people of Connecticut."
