Local Candidates Who Are Making A Difference

CT Candidates 2007I have been delighted to travel around the state during the last couple of weeks on behalf of so many first-time candidates who are challenging entrenched incumbents for local office.

So many candidates running this year were very involved in our campaign last year, and are running to bring a breath of fresh air to the smoke-filled rooms of local government. I want to tell you a bit more about a few of them, and encourage you to get involved in their campaigns.

Please forward this page to your friends and family below, and let them know about these inspiring progressive candidates running all around Connecticut as Election Day, November 6th, quickly approaches.

Marc Bradley for Norwalk Common Council

Marc Bradley (aka "The Shadow," since he went almost everywhere with me last year) is running for common council in Norwalk. Strengths: He knows the state inside and out, and he will be a strong advocate for Norwalk families both at home and in Hartford. Weaknesses: He is a die hard Red Sox fan in the heart of Yankee country (but unlike Rudy Giuliani, he is staying true to his team).

Tim Brennan for West Hartford Town Council

Tim Brennan will be a great addition to the West Hartford town council and a terrific teammate for Mayor Scott Slifka. West Hartford has more lawn signs per front lawn than any other town, and judging from the positive energy he exuded during our campaign, Tim will be a proactive member of the council and make a real difference for his constituents. Too many good people are discouraged from getting involved by the rough and tumble of politics... but not Tim.

Luis Cotto for Hartford City Council

Luis Cotto is the owner of La Paloma coffee house and is a candidate for city council in Hartford on the Working Families ticket. La Paloma was our home away from home whenever we were in Hartford last year, and their hot coffee and cool talk provided a great spot for us to recharge our batteries before heading back out to the political wars. Luis knows what it means to start a business and raise a family in Hartford - a much needed perspective on the City Council.

Ken Gucker for Danbury Common Council

Ken Gucker was sitting in his shop in Danbury last year listening to the radio when he decided to get involved in our race for senate. He was an absolutely tireless volunteer last year, and if works as hard for Danbury as he did in our campaign, Danbury will enjoy a grand renaissance. Working closely with Mayoral candidate Helena Abrantes, Ken will strike the right balance between open space and new jobs for Danbury.

Ted Hoffstatter for Wilton Board of Selectmen

As a campaign activist, Ted Hoffstatter knows how to draw a crowd, so let’s hope that he draws a huge crowd of voters to send him to the Board of Selectmen in Wilton. As a former selectman, I know the job is on the front lines of democracy and custom made for someone with lots of energy, yet never too busy to listen. Ted has both qualities, and his candidacy shows young people that you are never too young to get involved. Ted, show us the way.

Kerri Rowland for Mayor of Milford

Kerri Rowland brings a unique skill to her race for Mayor of Milford - as a star hockey player at college and now a coach, she knows the meaning of teamwork and a winning strategy. As a Milford native, a parent, and an alderman, she’s already been a winner for Milford,. Now she is locked in a tight race against an entrenched Republican incumbent who has the strong backing of Joe Lieberman. Kerri will bring much needed new leadership to her hometown.
